DVD and Blu-ray Releases: June 21, 2016

We’ve got a really short list coming off of this Father’s Day weekend. Hopefully everyone had a nice day.

First, it bums me out to have to say RIP to Anton Yelchin. This is such terribly sad and stunning news regarding the young star’s tragic and untimely death. With an already stacked résumé, he definitely had a promising and bright career ahead of him. Make sure to pick up Green Room on July 15th when that drops on Blu-ray and DVD.

Our one classic comes in the form of 1985’s Biohazard. Featuring a who’s who of underground favorites, you can grab it on DVD this week.

Aside from that, Dead in Tombstone will be available this week as well. Danny Trejo and Anthony Michael Hall feature in a movie where Mickey Rourke plays the devil. That’s the kind of sentence that would compel me to check a movie out.

I’ll let you check out the other two releases for the week below. We’ve got kind of a slow week again next week, but once July hits, we will have a fair amount of releases to discuss.

As always, pleasant viewing.

MOVIES

Biohazard (1985)

Biohazard (1985)

Starring:

Aldo Ray, Angelique Pettyjohn, Carroll Borland

Synopsis:

The cult classic returns featuring an all-new 2K 16×9 widescreen film transfer from the original 35mm negative! A group of scientists, army types and a buxom psychic use a variety of methods to suck a bloodthirsty alien out of another dimension. Upon arriving, the little devil blasts his way loose, taking part of a soldiers face along the way. The psychic and her network of friends chase the beast, tracking him down for a blood-drenched finale in an underground beauty shop.

Filmed over the course of two years, Biohazard (1983-84) was Fred Olen Ray’s follow-up to his movie Scalps and features much of the same cast and crew. This time around the monster was played by the director’s 5 year old son, Chris Olen Ray. Cult favorites Angelique Pettyjohn (Mad Doctor Of Blood Island, Star Trek, Get Smart), Aldo Ray (The Green Berets) and Carroll Borland (Mark Of The Vampire, Flash Gordon) were pressed into service for added name value. The end result was a campy, quirky “everything but the kitchen sink” sci-fi monster fest!
